TV Broadcast Antenna FAQ's

A UHF television broadcast antenna is a professional-grade antenna designed to transmit or receive television signals within the UHF frequency band. In Australia, this covers the 520-694MHz range and is used by broadcasters, network operators and transmission engineers to deliver digital television signals across a coverage area.

In Australian television broadcasting, VHF antennas operating in the 174-230MHz range are primarily used for transfer links and translator applications - carrying the broadcast signal between transmission points rather than direct-to-consumer delivery. They are also widely used for digital TV broadcasting in international markets where VHF spectrum remains allocated for that purpose.

Following the Australian Government's spectrum restack, UHF TV broadcast antennas in Australia operate within the 520-694MHz range. The 700-820MHz band was reallocated for mobile broadband use. VHF 174-230MHz remains in use for transfer links and translator services.

A Yagi TV antenna is a directional antenna suited to point-to-point applications where gain is needed in a specific direction. A collinear tv antenna is omnidirectional, radiating signal across a wide area, making it suitable for broad coverage broadcast applications. A dipole array combines multiple dipole elements to achieve higher gain and controlled radiation patterns, commonly used in high-power broadcast transmitter sites.
